Our Complete Exterior Painting Process

Our Complete Exterior House Painting Process "Sound Quality Painting, one of the very best house painters in Snohomish County, uses the finest products and does high quality painting at reasonable prices."

Below is everything we provide at one fair price:

Application of mold and mildew killer: This is a critical step in the Northwest and is often overlooked by other house painters. During pressure cleansing mold and mildew spores might be overlooked. These problematic spores may then start growing and ruin your paint job in 24 months or less. Application of mold and mildew killer is so critical we spray it on every home we paint and also have done so for 18 years. For an additional charge we can add a mildewcide to your paint but this is only going to deter mold and mildew growth from the external side of your paint not under the paint.

Wash: Sound Quality Painting power washes your home prior to painting at no additional fee. In some situations the structure will be washed after when primers and caulking have been applied. This can help to avoid trapping moisture in the wood prior to the finish coat. We also use a pressure washer if paint stripping is necessary.

Prep: Sound Quality Painting will wait for the structure to dry. At this time we do all scraping and sanding of flaking, chipping, or peeling paint and then prime all bare wood surfaces with either a high resin or an alkyd wood under coat.

Blistered siding will be brushed and back rolled at this time to help seal and hide for last coat appearance. Back rolling is not done at time of final spray application to ensure proper texture of applied paint. Not all severe blistering will be completely concealed after completion.

Sound Quality Painting then caulks the whole house. We use a 45 year caulk and seal all windows if necessary, caulk the backs of highly noticeable lower front and rear entryways and wrap-around porch and deck soffits, and caulk all corner joints, door jambs, cracks and any other areas to help make the final paint job look clean and nice.

All siding, trim, or other moldings that are loose will be re-nailed where possible or reasonable. Deep set nails and nail holes will be filled with caulking to prevent water penetration. We can replace damaged trim or siding at a small percentage of what it could cost with a building contractor.

Paint: After the house has had the proper a chance to dry, we will begin painting your home. Sound Quality Painting, your best Snohomish County house painters, applies all paints according to manufacture specs to insure proper warranty. Proper guarantee includes applying the paint at a proper mil thickness damp or dried. Two coats won't increase or take away from the warranty. We apply all paint in a one or two coat process to the thickness required by the manufacturer. If required we add more coats for coverage or hiding at our discretion.

All trim, corner boards, fascia, window trim, and door jambs are brushed and rolled with two layers of paint where appropriate. Gutters are painted with roller and back brushed for a even finish. The body of your house is painted using an airless sprayer while applying the paint at the proper mil thickness and overlapping by 50% to insure coverage and warranty. All primed and blistered areas were back rolled prior to spraying and will now have a total of 3 layers of paint.

We paint gutters the same color as your fascia unless you specify otherwise or gutters are glossy and not paintable. The soffits are painted the same color as your siding unless given in bid.

Paint sheen will be satin unless customer specifies otherwise. Satin sheen generally out-performs flat paints and are better to clean.

Each house has its own characteristics. Primers, prepping techniques, and finish coats may be changed to maximize overall job performance.

Painting of the exterior of the house includes all original features built on the house. It generally does not include painting storm windows or doors, decks, sheds, steel railings, awnings, hot tubs, planters, light fixtures, or any other structure not part of the original house unless specified in the estimate.

Clean: Sound Quality Painting will clean the job site by removing all trash, cleaning all walk ways, drive ways, porches, etc. We attempt to remove all paint chips brought on by any sanding and scraping but due to the character of the small chips and landscaping, not all paint chips can be removed.

Touch up Kit: A touch up kit that includes a pint of every paint or product used is left in a labeled box for your convenience (when available). Each container is tagged with the color name or number, type of product, sheen, and where it is located on the job.

Invoice: Upon completion, Sound Quality Painting, your best Snohomish County house painters, mails an invoice plus a touch up submission form and customer suggestion form with a self addressed envelope for your convenience. We encourage all customers to send the recommendation form in whether positive or negative to help us improve our service.
